Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

PCOS is a significant ovulation problem that can be observed in one out of every ten women. The pregnancy process of women with polycystic ovaries is adversely affected.

In addition to this, it has a significant impact on the emergence of various diseases in a person’s body. Women with polycystic ovary syndrome typically have a large number of small, underdeveloped follicles and numerous benign cystic structures in their ovaries.

Although the cysts seen in women’s reproductive organs are usually benign, they can disrupt the functioning of the body and cause irregularities in menstruation in individuals developing the syndrome over time due to their abnormal structure. Along with menstrual irregularities, the menstrual cycle of individuals with the syndrome is disrupted, resulting in a decreasing chance of pregnancy. Changes in hormone production also occur in individuals with the disease.

The symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome are as follows:

Irregular menstrual cycles or absence of menstruation.

Repeated miscarriages.

Weight gain and inability to lose weight.

Increased acne and skin discoloration.

Thickening of voice.

High levels of androgen hormone in the blood.

Inability to conceive.

Abnormal hair growth on the body.

Polycystic Ovary (PCOS) Surgery

Polycystic ovary surgery involves creating a certain number of holes in the ovaries to reduce the production of androgen hormones. This procedure can be performed with laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery. However, great care must be taken during polycystic ovary surgery as the holes made in the ovaries can damage ovarian reserve.
